We explain what we find in plain terms and give you honest options on how to resolve it. This may include targeted repairs with mastic, foil tape, or connectors for simple fixes, or a full replacement with properly sized, sealed sheet metal or insulated flex for long-term performance. Price

How We Price Your Duct Repair or Replacement in Kansas City

  • Repairs vs replacements: Your free estimate with Hometown Heroes includes a thorough review of your home’s ductwork. If the ductwork is beyond repair, whether due to age or damage, a replacement may be necessary. Spot repairs won’t cost nearly as much.
  • Duct material and type: Flexible ducts are quicker to patch or replace in short sections. Rigid sheet metal or fiberglass duct board takes more time and tends to have higher material costs for replacement.
  • Extra work discovered: Mold remediation, insulation repair, air sealing gaps, or code upgrades (e.g., fire-rated materials) are quoted separately if they come up during the job.

Process

Our Straightforward Duct Repair and Replacement Process

  • Schedule & Free Estimate

If you’ve noticed weak airflow, creaky ducts, or higher energy bills, call Hometown Heroes for your free, no-obligation estimate. Our technician inspects accessible ducts with a camera to get the full picture of your duct system before any work begins.

  • Discuss Your Options

We provide honest recommendations: targeted repairs (sealing leaks, reconnecting sections, or patching holes with mastic/tape) for minor issues, or full/partial replacement (new insulated flex or rigid sheet metal runs) when ducts are too damaged or inefficient. You get upfront pricing that fits your budget and comfort goals every time.

  • Repair or Replacement Day

For repairs, your experts will access ducts safely, reconnect or seal sections, and test airflow. For replacements, they remove damaged runs, install properly sized/insulated new ducts, seal joints tightly, and ensure code-compliant connections. In most cases, repairs are resolved in less than a day, and replacements tend to take a day or two.

  • Testing, Cleanup & Follow-Up

We run full airflow tests before and after to confirm even distribution and improved performance. We’ll also thoroughly clean up our work sites and confirm you are 100% satisfied with the results. Every repair or replacement carries a 1-year labor warranty, so if anything gives you cause for concern afterward, just call us.

FAQs

Duct Repair and Replacement Frequently Asked Questions

Duct repair is usually the better choice when damage is limited and the overall system is still in good shape. Most ducts last 15–30 years, with flex lasting on the shorter end of that time frame. If yours is under 15–20 years old and the problems are fixable, a repair may be the best option. Here's a quick guide:

  • Repair is ideal for isolated issues like a few disconnected joints, small holes, crushed sections in accessible areas, or loose connections. Sealing or patching with mastic/tape/connectors works well here.
  • Consider replacement if there's widespread damage like multiple crushed runs, extensive rodent chewing, heavy corrosion, or mold throughout. If your ducts are very old or if the flex is degrading, these are signs a replacement is the best bet.

A camera inspection shows the full extent so you can choose the most cost-effective fix for your home.

A professional inspection is the best way to know the state of your ductwork. But there are clues that you may want to schedule that camera inspection, which include:

  • Weak or uneven airflow from vents points to leaks
  • Visible damage like crushed flex in your attic/crawl space or holes
  • High dust around vents
  • Whistling noises in your ducts
  • Big efficiency drops which lead to increased energy bills

Flexible ducts can be safely repaired in many cases if the damage is minor. That includes things like small holes or disconnected ends, which can be sealed with mastic and foil tape, or reconnected with proper clamps. However, if they're crushed, eaten away by rodents, kinked from poor installation, or over 15–20 years old (material degrades, insulation settles), replacement is usually safer and more efficient.

We inspect your ductwork carefully during our estimate. If a repair is viable and cost-effective, we'll do it. If not, we'll recommend new insulated flex or sheet metal for better long-term performance.

We primarily use insulated flexible duct (R-6 or R-8) for most residential replacements. It's flexible for tight spaces, pre-insulated to reduce heat loss, and sealed tightly at joints. For longer runs, straighter paths, or maximum durability/airflow, we install rigid sheet metal (galvanized steel or aluminum) with external insulation where needed.

All materials meet local codes, and joints are sealed with mastic or foil tape for airtight connections. We choose based on your home's layout and needs: flex for accessibility, sheet metal for longevity and efficiency.

Testimonial

We’re all quite pleased with the service, including the dog.

“Hometown Heroes was wonderful to do business with. All associates were very professional, friendly, and let us know exactly what was going on every step of the way. Plus took time to talk to the dog as he has anxiety issues with all that was going on in the house. All work was completed in one day - a new furnace & air conditioner plus some work on the ducts. In no time the house was cool again. We’re all quite pleased with the service, including the dog. Thanks so much!!!”
